So some of you are wondering, just what the heck is naturism? Also
sometimes commonly known more simply as nudism, naturism is defined
as:
A way of life in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of
communal nudity, with the intention of encouraging respect for oneself,
respect for others and for the environment. -International
Naturist Federation
The first time I ever went nude alone in my house
for about 6 hours of the day, I was hooked. For those of us that
always wear clothes, there's always a bigger picture, a greater world to
explore that many are never aware of. What does being nude for hours
do, exactly? Well, if you're by yourself, just doing things you'd
normally do during the day, most would say it doesn't do much. But
for me, I noticed a brand new heightening of all of my senses, everything
became amplified, and suddenly the entire world around me, not just
myself, seemed to live and breathe as I treaded water through my nicely
air conditioned house. It's very convenient these days, because
houses didn't always have air conditioning, human beings didn't always
have it this good, and things like this weren't always very practical or
preferable. Yet, look at us now! We've got it all now.
We've got food delivered to grocery stores, beds made for us to sleep in,
and loads of other wonderful treasures. Strangely, common American
society and the usual cultural conditioning often put to shame the human
body, being nude, and enjoying the thing that should be a right for every
human being to enjoy - their own body!
A common misconception with naturism,
especially in the wonderful United States of America, is the associative
link of nudity to sex. It's only natural that in a massively media
directed society, where sexual repression itself is present, that the
media would only show nudity with sex. Any other time, like the
instance of Janet Jackson that we all know(please!), nudity of any kind,
or rather - the exposure of the genitals has become a ridiculous and
absurd thing to react to in the USA, and many other countries, sadly, as
well. What everyone must come to understand, is that all parts of
the human body are natural, everyone of your same gender has these parts.
If you're new to naturism and reading this, which is the likely case - I'm
sorry to have written that previous sentence as if I were saying it to a
child, but unfortunately, I had to.
In the 1960's, naturism exploded in
the United States, with resorts that have sprung up across the nation, as
well as nude beaches. The concepts of "hippie" and "nudie colony"
were coined, and with them a persistence that lasted for many to modern
day. These are terrible conceptions of what naturism really is.
It's become a pet peeve among naturists when people refer to resorts
as colonies, making it out to seem like they're a cult(yet
another rare misconception), or a group of freak shows.
Nevertheless, naturists are normal people. Someone from every line
of work will be a naturist, all over the world, no matter who, or where
you are. It is a state of dress, not a religion. It is a state
of dress, not an organization.
Naturism With Children
Children don't know the
difference! As children, we're taught that nudity is wrong, but
naturally we don't just develop this conclusion on our own. Of
course, obviously, someone did at some point in history, but out of the
6.5 billion people that are on this planet today, a good solid amount of
them will be taught as children that nudity is wrong, and their natural
obliviousness to it will vanish. Even so, there's nothing to be
oblivious about, because the notion that nudity is wrong, or that not
wearing clothes when it's not necessary is wrong - is...well, wrong!
Naturism With Teens
Teens go through a very
troubled time during their years. It's strange to me, that out of
elementary school, intermediate school, and highschool - the intermediate
years always seem to be the worst, always the most severe in so many
different ways. Why is that? One element to the troubling
times of the intermediate years is puberty, and alienation from one's own
body. Wouldn't it seem more beneficial if children were taught about
their bodies early on and not sheltered to be dealing with a lot of
difficulty and usually some kind of low confidence and self esteem later
on? Why are we letting kids deal with it on their own? Why are
schools teaching them the knowledge that their parents should have?
Naturism With Adults
Every day, adults all over
the world are experiencing naturism, and many times, for the first time.
Adults, amazingly enough, you would think would be the ones to often
evaluate the intelligent perspective behind naturism, but like many other
traditional creative solutions to various problems around the world,
adults and their preprogrammed perspective of the world serves as a block
to the understanding of naturism, causing a worldwide dismay to the human
body. If you have the time, go learn about how people around the
world of various ages and cultures view nudity. The multi millennium
history will astound you. It has taken hundreds and hundreds of
years of cultural, societal evolution to create the common views that
become present in everyday adults today. Break that view, and the
world in your eyes can just as easily change.
